The exciting potential of agent technology has deeply marked these last years as a winning strategy to address the issues cited before.
Agents or Multi-Agent Systems sketch intelligent behaviours by describing and managing computational activities shared over communities of large-grain entities. Even though an agent owns a partial knowledge and a reduced deductive ability; it may acquire wider competences thanks to rich interaction-cooperation schemas. It is clear that agent technology better fits the aspects of all those problems which can be depicted in terms of cooperating endeavours.
Computational Intelligence, and in particular Fuzzy Technology, play an important role in the design of smart agents. Promising benefits derive from well-founded computational intelligence-oriented approaches in order to better manage the behavioural models of the agents, especially when the interactions occur in an environment characterized by imprecision, uncertainty, and partial truth.

Mission

CORISA is a research consortium on intelligent software agent technologies established in the early 2008.
The Consortium comes from a long experience matured in a large number of industrial projects run by the current CORISA’s team (see both people and projects references). This latter has pioneered works in the development of the concept and realization of soft-computing agents, where the approximate reasoning capability has been embedded in problem solving agent-based architectures for a wide variety of applications.

By means of integrating agent paradigm and soft computing technologies, CORISA explores, masters and exploits the following fundamental topics:

  • Computational intelligence approaches to define distributed problem solvign techniques to represent and reason about large scale control systems;
  • Decomposition of complex systems into autonomous or semiautonomous agents through evolutionary models;
  • Enrich agent programming paradigm for cooperative computational intelligence-based reasoning and processing.

Vision

Seeing the majority stake of the University of Salerno and the minority interest of several Italian industrial companies, CORISA is indeed a non-commercial and non profit-making organization aiming at offering services to organizations and enterprises of the public and the private sector both at national and international level, from a highly qualified permanent staff with expertise in all relative fields of technical and scientific consulting in its expertise areas.
CORISA expects to play a strategic role in the information technology sector as scientific and technological partner in a wide area of activities, both exploiting its deep knowledge in the area mentioned in the following sections and holding strategy partnership cooperation with a number of leading European I.T. firms.
